Part 4
This book looked like a special book in my opinion. Everyone knows the old saying, "Never judge a book by it's cover." But me, I always do, because  that's just who I am, I know it's a bad habit, but what really gave my attention to this book is the cover, "In Darkness" the two words already give a really deep meaning, imagine you are laying down in a middle of a hospital, not only in a hospital, but a dark hospital after a terrible earthquake surrounded by dead bodies. To me it would be a terrifying experience to be trapped in a dark hospital surrounded by dead bodies. Also what drew my attention is that it's a suspenseful genre, and suspense books are my favorite types of book, because of the mystery and waiting for what is about to happen. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes the Mystery genre and like suspenseful books.
Part 2
Shorty fights desires such as drugs and murders people to survive in hope of reuniting with his twin sister. She was kidnapped in the same attack as his father was murdered in front of him, Shorty dedicates his life to find her. He apprentices himself to a proAristide gang leader and shoots his first man, at age 12. But this book not only talks about his life, he starts dreaming about another Haitian man named Toussaint 1'Ouverture that was a slave that turned revolutionary who managed to overthrow French control and live. He is a reluctant leader, but his thoughtfulness and his desire for the least bloody solution make him the kind of man who might succeed. Also ironically 200 years back when Toussaint was alive he also dreamed of a trapped young man during the future in Haiti.

Part 3
" I wake and open my eyes. And for  moment I panic.
I'm blind. Then I remember the darkness. It's strange, but it's blacker with my eyes open. When they're closed, I see the pulses and swirls of my blood, fireworks against my eyelids, and I remember this one time, when I was lying under the sun with my eyes closed, with Tintin nearby, floating on a rich man's pool, drunk on stolen liquor.
Only here, in the hospital the, there is no sun.
Here, when my eyes are open, I see nothing." The book " In Darkness" it has to main characters, the first is Shorty and the second is Toussaint. But in this part of the book the story teller is Shorty and you can obviously tell its in first person. In this part of the book Shorty wakes up from his dream also explains how trapped he is in the hospital and how dark it is, then he flashes back to the gold old days when his friend was floating in a rich man's pool while getting drunk with a stolen bottle of liquor. He gives so many details on how miserable his life is now after the eartquake.

Part 1
A fifteen year old boy from Haiti trapped in a dark hospital after the Haitian earthquake in 2010. He tells his story when he starts to be a bad or gangster type of person, and his name is Shorty, he described how he couldn't get any water and how he thought he was dead but he wasn't. He constantly describes that their are broken dead bodies surrounding him, he tries to reach for something and he freaks out because of touching a dead hand. Despite living in Haiti he still learned how to read his dad taught him before he was murdered.
In this book I think there will be someone to find Shorty and get him food and shelter after the terrible earthquake. Sometimes he would think that he would turn into zombies or the dead people around him will turn into zombies, which would be awfully terrible. He then talks about his life before the earthquake, where he meet a lot of different people. He also talks about the poor life he had and violent politics that destroyed his family. I really wanted to know more about his family and his gangster life with other gangsters and what they did around them.
