Shorty fights desires such as drugs and murders people to survive in hope of reuniting with his twin sister. He is a reluctant leader, but his thoughtfulness and his desire for the least bloody solution make him the kind of man who might succeed. Also ironically 200 years back when Toussaint was alive he also dreamed of a trapped young man during the future in Haiti.
